Liana Nanang Omodele
Multidisciplinary Storyteller & Memory Keeper
Liana Nanang Omodele is a versatile visual artist, writer, and speaker. Inspired by her Black-Bermudian, Iban-Malaysian, Indigenous-South American, Scottish and Portuguese heritage, Liana's work explores resilience and resistance as ancestral memory and what it means to be a neurodivergent woman of colour.
Liana's creative expression is a fusion of art and history that intertwines ancient indigenous narratives with contemporary culture and artistic practices. She works both individually and as one-half of the art collective OYANGO alongside her husband, Ajala Omodele.
Liana is the founder of Unstoried, a multimedia entertainment start-up that tells authentic stories of People of the Global Majority. In partnership with Ajala, Liana leads Unchained on the Rock, a storytelling initiative that chronicles narratives of Black liberation and resistance throughout the Atlantic Basin. Together, they offer talks, workshops, events and consulting that honour their Ancestors and storytelling forebears.
Liana obtained a law degree from University College, London and is a New York-qualified attorney. She studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and T. Schreiber Studio in Manhattan.
Liana’s writing and photography have featured in The New York Times, and she has been interviewed by Forbes. As a mental health advocate, Liana has appeared as an on-air contributor for the UK’s BBC Breakfast, BBC World News, and various Bermuda-based media channels. She is a past winner of Best Columnist in The Bermudian Best of Bermuda Awards. Through her Substack newsletter Cave Conversations, she publishes essays on recovery, resistance, healing and liberation.
Liana has exhibited artwork in the Bermuda National Gallery Biennial, the Bermuda Society of Arts and at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art where she won Use of Materials in the 2021 Charman Prize.
Liana is a seasoned PR strategist. She spent several years leading a communications and content development firm and has worked with multinational corporations, political campaigns, and quangos. She is also the former Special Advisor to the Premier of Bermuda and current Special Advisor to Bermuda's Attorney-General.
